“How am I supposed to learn German in German if I don't know any German yet?”
Almost everyone asks us this. The answer is simpler than you think.
We start at the very beginning
First pronunciation and the alphabet. Then your first words. Then simple situations. Nobody expects a long sentence before you know your first word.
Showing instead of translating
You see what a word means: in a picture, in a situation, in an example. That way, it sticks.
We explain things in a way you understand
Lessons are entirely in German. For grammar, you also get materials in your own language so you can understand the rules with confidence. Only one thing matters: that you understand everything.

Before you sign up
Is it really live, or is it videos?
It's 100% live. At a fixed time, you're online together with your teacher and your group. You talk to each other, and you get corrected right away. At WkD, there is no video course that you have to work through on your own.
I don't know any German at all yet. Can I still join?
Yes. That's what the A1 course is for. We start with pronunciation and the alphabet. Then come your first words and simple situations. You don't need to know anything.
What is the WkD learning portal?
Your personal space for the course, in the browser and as an app on your phone. There you'll find your dates, the link to class, the materials, homework with exercises, your teacher's corrections and your progress. It's included in every course.
What is the WkD notebook?
A notebook for writing, right in the learning portal. You write with your finger or a pen, like on paper, or you type. Then you send the notebook to your teacher. Your teacher corrects it with a red pen and comments, and you get a grade and feedback.
Who corrects my homework?
That depends on the task. Many exercises in your learning portal, like gap fills, matching or multiple choice, are checked by the portal instantly. Your writing tasks and open answers are corrected personally by your teacher. You see their corrections and comments, your grade and their feedback right in the app.
I have little time. How much do I have to do at home?
Not much. At WkD, there is no unnecessary homework. The tasks are planned so that you can manage them alongside work, family or university. You learn most things in class.
When are the classes?
In a group course, the dates are fixed. You can see them above in the sign-up section as soon as you choose your course. On weekdays, classes are in the afternoon or evening. On weekends, they are during the day or in the evening. In private lessons, you arrange the dates with your teacher. In your learning portal, you see all dates in your local time.
Can I learn with someone else, for example my partner?
Yes. At WkD, private lessons are for 1 to 3 people. You only learn as two or three if you all want that and agree. Send us a quick message on WhatsApp, and we'll sort it out.
Do I get a certificate at the end?
From us, you get a certificate of attendance. We do not hold official exams, and we do not issue official language certificates. But we prepare you for telc, Goethe and g.a.s.t. (TestDaF) and help you find an exam center.
Are books and materials included in the price?
No. We teach with our own textbooks. They cost extra and are available as a PDF or in print. The learning portal is included in every course.
What do I need technically?
A computer or tablet with an internet connection. For the learning portal, your phone is enough.
What if the course turns out not to be right for me?
Before you sign up, you can take a free trial lesson: 45 minutes, no obligation. Only then do you decide. Your statutory right of withdrawal is not affected by this.
