German for vocational training
At the company, people talk fast. At vocational school, it's straight to the point. At WkD, you learn the language the way it's really used there, not the way it's written in a textbook. Even if you're starting completely from scratch today.
Experiences
2 out of 3 of our learners had already learned German somewhere else before.
“The presentations really improved my German. My pronunciation has become clearer and I speak much more confidently today.”
Ing. S. Nikravesh
“I had taken various German courses for two years before, and online courses had not really worked for me either. Here it was different: everyone was active, everyone had to join in and speak. That way I learned much more.”
K. Olena
“What helped me most: in class only German is spoken, right from the start. At first that was unfamiliar, but after two weeks I didn't want it any other way.”
M. Keller
“I needed B2 to get my qualifications recognized. The course was focused exactly on the exam. The preparation for the speaking part helped me a lot.”
Dr. A. Jafari Zare
“The small group helped me a lot. We got corrections in every lesson and could speak a lot. That is exactly what I missed in my previous course with lots of participants.”
A. Goli
“Because of my work at the clinic, I only had time in the evenings. The class times were adjusted to my shift schedule, so I could still attend regularly.”
Dr. F. Hassani
Is this right for you?
You want to apply and realize that without German, not much works. On the phone, in the interview, in your first conversation with the boss.
You've got the offer, the start date is getting closer, and you don't want to be the one who just nods at work and understands nothing.
You don't know any German yet. That's not a problem. For us, it's the normal starting point.
The problem
That's almost never your fault. It's down to how most courses are structured.
The most common question
This is the question we hear most often. It's a fair one. And the answer is simpler than you think.
At the start, it's about pronunciation and the alphabet. Then come single words. Then simple situations. Nobody expects you to understand a long sentence before you know your first word.
You see what a word means: in a picture, in the situation, in an example or in a simpler explanation. That way, you remember it as a picture in your head, not as a word on a vocabulary list.
Lessons are entirely in German. For grammar, you also get materials in your own language so you can understand the rules with confidence. Only one thing matters: that you understand everything.
From the very first lesson, you get your ear used to German. Then German is no longer a language you translate in your head first. It's one you understand directly.
How we teach
WkD stands for real, natural, everyday-ready German. Not textbook German that works in the classroom but not outside it.
Pictures, videos, audio. You see and hear what a word means, instead of learning it by heart.
We explain things in simple language and with examples. No technical terms that need an explanation of their own.
You learn through situations that really happen to you, and stories that stick in your mind.
The way people really talk. So you understand not just the news, but your colleagues too.
In group lessons, you sometimes work in small groups. There, everyone gets a turn, not just the confident ones.
You learn grammar because you need it, at the moment you need it. Not as an end in itself.
For everyone with little time
Our participants are adults with plenty of other things going on: work, family, government offices, settling into a new country. If that sounds like your life, you need a course that takes your time seriously.
That's why we deliberately don't assign large amounts of homework. There is some, but it's planned so that working people and students can really manage it. For us, it matters more that your time in class is worth it than that you work through lists at home.
And if you couldn't keep up in a lesson: after every lesson, you get a PDF with the important mistakes, new words and sentences. With it, you can catch up in just a few minutes.
Your WkD learning portal
With your course, you get your own learning portal, in the browser and as an app on your phone. This is where you do your exercises, hand in your tasks and get corrections and feedback. So you keep learning with a clear focus and always know where you stand.
Add the learning portal to your phone as an app. If you want, it lets you know: shortly before class, when there's new homework and as soon as your correction is ready.
Listening, reading, writing and speaking: you practice right in the portal, no printing needed. The portal checks many exercises instantly. From your second try, you also see the solution with an explanation.
Write with your finger or a pen, just like on paper, or type your text. Your notebook saves itself. Done? One click, and it's with your teacher.
Your teacher corrects your writing tasks personally: with a red pen, comments, a grade and feedback. You see it all right in the app. So you know exactly what to work on next.
Your grades and results turn into charts. So you can see how you're progressing in listening, reading, writing and speaking, and what's already going really well.
Dates in your local time, the link to class, the materials for each lesson and messages to your teacher. Can't make it one day? Just let us know in the portal.
How a lesson works
One thing first
That depends on the trade and the company. Two rough guidelines from experience:
Official: for the vocational training visa, German at level B1 is normally required. Source: Make it in Germany, the German government's portal for skilled workers from abroad.
Exactly what you need depends on your individual situation. Please check with the relevant authority: immigration office, chamber, vocational school or employer. We're happy to tell you how to get there from where you stand now.
Two clicks, and you'll see the schedule and price. Then you can sign up directly and pay online.
1 What level are you starting at?
Not sure? Choose A1 if you're a complete beginner. In the free trial lesson, we'll figure out together what really fits.
2 How would you like to learn?
You decide how many people take part. You only learn as two or three if you all want that and agree. Otherwise, private lessons are one-to-one.
Good to know
Who's behind WkD
WkD is an online language school for German. We teach with our own method and keep developing it.
Questions almost everyone asks
In class, you practice exactly the things you need for that: introducing yourself, asking and answering questions, speaking coherently and explaining your opinion. Presentations are part of the lessons, because they train several skills at once.
There are group courses on weekdays, in the afternoon or evening, and on weekends, during the day or in the evening. We agree on the exact time with all participants before the course starts. Private lessons are flexible: you arrange the times individually with your teacher. You can see the exact times above in the sign-up section as soon as you choose your course.
Yes. The A1 course is made exactly for that. We start with pronunciation and the alphabet. Then come single words, then simple situations. You don't need any prior knowledge.
Because we show the meaning instead of translating it: with pictures, the situation, examples and simple language. Lessons are entirely in German. For grammar, you also get materials in your own language so you can understand the rules with confidence.
There is homework, but deliberately not much. It's planned so that you can manage it alongside work or studies. You'll find it in your WkD learning portal, also as an app on your phone. For many exercises, you see right away what is correct. After every lesson, you also get a PDF with your most important mistakes, new words and sentences.
That depends on the task. Many exercises in your learning portal, like gap fills, matching or multiple choice, are checked by the portal instantly. Your writing tasks and open answers are corrected personally by your teacher. You see their corrections and comments, your grade and their feedback right in the app.
Before you sign up, you can take a free trial lesson of 45 minutes. There, you see how we work, and we see what suits you. Only then do you decide. Your statutory right of withdrawal is not affected by this.
Just a computer or tablet with an internet connection. Nothing more.
From us, you get a certificate of attendance or a course certificate. We do not hold official language exams and do not issue official language certificates. You take the exam elsewhere. We prepare you for it and help you find an exam center.
No. We teach with our own textbooks. They cost extra and are available as a PDF or in print.
Yes, for B1, B2 and C1. Exam preparation is a group course, either on weekends or on weekdays. On weekdays, we teach in the afternoon or evening. On weekends, we teach during the day or in the evening. It has 15 teaching units (UE) of 45 minutes each. If you need more practice after that, you can book extra UE for an additional fee. Our focus is telc, plus Goethe and g.a.s.t.
